Tobramycin
Ophthalmic tobramycin is used to treat eye
infections. Tobramycin is
in a class of medications called antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria that
cause infections. Common side effects of Tobramycin for Injection include dizziness, spinning sensation
(vertigo), ringing in the ears, kidney problems, anemia, fever, rash, itching,
nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, loss of appetite, diarrhea, headache,
lethargy, injection site reactions (pain, irritation, or redness), and
confusion.
What drug class is tobramycin
This medication is used to treat eye infections. Tobramycin
belongs to a class of drugs called aminoglycoside
antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This
medication treats only bacterial eye infections.
What is the action of tobramycin
Tobramycin belongs to a class of drugs called aminoglycoside antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This medication treats only bacterial eye infections. It will not work for other types of eye infections. Tobramycin binds irreversibly to one of two aminoglycoside binding sites on the 30 S ribosomal subunit, inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Tobramycin may also destabilize bacterial memebrane by binding to 16 S 16 S r-RNA.
When should I take tobramycin
- For mild to moderate infections: Adults and children—Use every eight to twelve hours.
- For severe infections: Adults and children—Use every three to four hours until improvement occurs.
What are the side effects of tobramycin
Common side effects of Tobramycin for Injection include dizziness, spinning sensation
(vertigo), ringing in the ears, kidney problems, anemia, fever, rash, itching,
nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, loss of appetite, diarrhea, headache,
lethargy, injection site reactions (pain, irritation, or redness), and
confusion
What is the indication of tobramycin
Serious susceptible infections, including lower respiratory tract, CNS (eg,
meningitis), intraabdominal (eg, peritonitis), septicemia, bone, skin and skin
structure, complicated and recurrent UTIs or uncomplicated UTIs not susceptible
to other antibiotics.
What is the contraindication of tobramycin
A hypersensitivity to
any aminoglycoside is
a contraindication to the use of Tobramycin. A history of hypersensitivity or serious toxic
reactions to aminoglycosides may
also contraindicate the use of any other aminoglycoside because of the known cross-sensitivity of
patients to drugs in this class.
Can tobramycin cause high blood pressure
Non-ocular adverse events occurring at an incidence of 0.5%
to 1% included headache and increased
blood pressure.
Does tobramycin need to be refrigerated
Store in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. If you can't keep the tobramycin inhalation solution in
the refrigerator, store the medicine in the foil pouch at room temperature for
up to 28 days away from heat or direct light. Do not use the medicine kept at room temperature after 28
days.
