What is the uses of levedopa .

The combination of levodopa and carbidopa is used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson's disease and Parkinson's - like symptoms that may develop after encephalitis ( swelling of the brain ) or injury to the nervous system caused by carbon monoxide poisoning or manganese poisoning.

Is levadopa a chorlinergic drug .

Anticholinergics may be given alone, or with levodopa or dopamine agonists in people with more advanced disease who have a persistent tremor. There are several anticholinergic drugs available for people with Parkinson disease, including trihexyphenidyl , benztropine , orphenadrine, procyclidine, and biperiden.

What is the action of levedopa .

It works by being converted to dopamine in the brain. Carbidopa is in a class of medications called decarboxylase inhibitors. It works by preventing levodopa from being broken down before it reaches the brain. This allows for a lower dose of levodopa, which causes less nausea and vomiting.


Why levedopa combine with carbidopa.

Levodopa is the precursor to dopamine - it is the substance that is used to make dopamine. Carbidopa is added to levodopa to prevent levodopa from being converted into dopamine in the bloodstream, which allows more of the medication to get to the brain. This also means that lower doses of levodopa can be given.

What are the side effect of levedopa .

  • mouth and throat pain .
  • constipation .
  • change in sense of taste .
  • forgetfulness or confusion .

What are the effects of levedopa .

Dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping, unusual dreams, or headache may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. This medication may cause saliva, urine, or sweat to turn a dark color.

What are the contraindication of levedopa.

malignant melanoma , a type of skin cancer. diabetes. mental problems from taking the drug. psychotic disorder. Avoid taking MAO inhibitors ( isocarboxazid , linezolid , methylene blue , moclobemide , phenelzine , procarbazine , tranylcypromine ) during treatment with this medication. Most MAO inhibitors should also not be taken for two weeks before treatment with this medication.
