 What is Theophylline used for

Theophylline is used to prevent and treat wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness caused by asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and other lung diseases. It relaxes and opens air passages in the lungs, making it easier to breathe.

 When should I take Theophylline?

Take theophylline exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Take this medication with a full glass of water on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.

The main actions of theophylline involve: relaxing bronchial smooth muscle. increasing heart muscle contractility and efficiency (positive inotrope) increasing heart rate (positive chronotropic)
